From March 24 to 26, 2025, the Improved Food System Project team(NPL-1083-22) conducted a three-day workshop at Lumbini Buddha Garden Resort to develop a food system transformation plan for Yasodhara Rural Municipality. The project is implemented by FORWARD Nepal and KSSC Nepal with support from Welthungerhilfe (WHH) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The opening day was chaired by the Chairperson of Yasodhara RM, with the head of the Agriculture Knowledge Centre (AKC) as the chief guest, while the closing day was chaired by the Chief administrative Officer of Yasodhara RM, while the head of the District Health Office were the chief guest. Five out of eight ward chairpersons participated in the workshop, reflecting strong local commitment to food security initiatives.
The workshop included intensive group exercises, with three teams working on two action tracks each, conducting problem tree and objective tree analyses with focus on their local level strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Participants presented their findings and exchanged feedback with other groups to refine strategies for food system transformation. Strengthening Nepal’s food systems is crucial for overcoming challenges such as low agricultural productivity, inadequate infrastructure, unsustainable practices and malnutrition. The initiative aligns with Nepal’s six priority action tracks for food system transformation, supporting long-term food security and sovereignty in line with the Right to Food and Food Sovereignty Act, 2018. We remain committed to bringing sustainable improvement to food security by fostering resilient and inclusive food systems in Kapilvastu district.
