The project teams of NPL-1083 and NPL-1084, being implemented with the support of Welthungerhilfe (WHH) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), recently participated in a four-day training on program management, leadership, and data management using SPSS. The event was jointly organized by FORWARD Nepal, Rural Reconstruction Nepal (RRN), KIDS Nepal, and KSSC Nepal. Trainers Mr. Niresh Chapagain and Mr. Gyanendra Rai facilitated the sessions, which brought together participants from multiple project teams for an enriching learning experience.
Day 1: Fundamentals of Program Planning:
The training began with a focused session on the basics of program planning. Trainers guided participants through the use of the problem tree and objective tree to analyze issues a project site and identify accurate logical solutions. These tools helped participants understand how to define project goals, objectives, outcomes, and activities using these tools. Group exercises allowed for practical application and active engagement, helping teams connect planning theory with field realities.
Day 2: Logical Framework and M&E Tools:
Day two introduced the logical framework (Log frame) as a key tool in project design and monitoring. Participants learned how to align activities with intended results, develop indicators, and consider project assumptions. Trainers stressed how M&E tools, including baseline assessments and regular data tracking, help ensure transparency and accountability. The day helped clarify how log frames serve both planning and reporting needs, especially in complex development environments.
Day 3: Data Collection and SPSS Basics:
Participants spent day three learning about key data collection techniques such as surveys, KIIs, and FGDs. The trainers provided guidance on developing effective questionnaires and upholding ethical standards in data collection. The session also included an introduction to SPSS software, where participants practiced data entry and basic analysis. The training highlighted the importance of organized data in supporting decision-making and project evaluation. It was especially useful for M&E team members working on performance tracking.
Day 4: Leadership, Delegation, and Time Management:
The final session focused on essential leadership and management skills. Time management strategies like task prioritization and scheduling were discussed to help improve productivity in demanding work settings. Participants shared personal experiences and built mutual understanding, reinforcing that strong leadership and collaboration are crucial in delivering development outcomes across diverse teams and stakeholders.
All in all, the training was a great success, with enthusiastic participation and strong engagement throughout the four days. Participants highly appreciated both the quality of the content and the expertise of the trainers, making the experience enriching and enjoyable.
