Local Governments Advance Food Rights Planning with Strategic Support from Improved Food System Project

The Improved Food System Project (NPL‑1083) team, along with trained local stakeholders and consultants, has submitted strategic food policy recommendations to local governments. The project, implemented by FORWARD Nepal and KSSC Nepal with support from WHH Nepal and BMZ, began the process by first ensuring that the core project team underwent a comprehensive Training of Trainers (ToT) on Food Rights and Food System Strategic Planning. After strengthening their own technical capacity, the team, alongside technical facilitators from Sahayatri Consult Pvt. Ltd., organized capacity-building sessions for local stakeholders and policymakers from Yashodhara, Suddhodhan, and Mayadevi Rural Municipalities in Lumbini.

In the next phase, project staff and consulting experts worked closely with the trained municipal taskforces to co-develop draft strategic plan recommendations. These sessions focused on practical planning tools such as problem-tree and objective-tree analysis, logical framework development, and mainstreaming Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI). At the conclusion of the process, the taskforces presented their strategic plan recommendations for endorsement by the executive bodies of the respective municipalities. Local leaders, including mayors, expressed strong commitment to incorporate the recommended actions into the 2082/83 annual budget and implementation priorities.
